My story

From the beat to the driver’s seat

19 years seeing what goes wrong on the road. Now he teaches you how to get it right.

Saifudin in New Zealand Police uniform

Then · 19 years in uniform

Protecting the public

13 years with the Singapore Police Force, including VVIP protection: driving and guarding heads of state, presidents, prime ministers, kings and sultans. Highly trained in defensive, offensive and protective driving.

Then 6 years with New Zealand Police, last posted in Taihape on one of the North Island’s busiest state highways, where he also worked as a crash investigator.

“I’ve investigated serious and fatal crashes. I know how quickly things go wrong, and how to prevent them.”

The turn · A new road

Choosing a different path

After policing, Saifudin ran his own ground-tour business, escorting VVIPs around Aotearoa until Covid.

Teaching was always part of him: Head Instructor in Silat (a South-East Asian martial art), trainer for new police recruits, and District Trainer for the NZ Electoral Commission.

“Teaching people has always been what I love most.”

Now · Dunedin

Helping you master the road

Saifudin started LCDC teaching learners in Queenstown and has now moved to Dunedin. He is a VTNZ Driver Testing Officer holding I & O endorsements for Class 1, so he knows exactly what examiners look for.

Today he gives after-hours lessons in a dual-control Toyota Aqua, patiently guiding nervous first-timers, overseas drivers and parents alike.

Why LCDC

Safe drivers for life, not just test day

Our mission

Our vision

A future where every driver is equipped with the confidence, competence and mindfulness to make our roads safer for everyone.

Patient & understanding

A supportive, encouraging environment for every learner, especially nervous ones.

Tailored to you

Everyone learns differently, so lessons are shaped around your pace and needs.

Community impact

Safer roads and responsible drivers for the communities we serve.

Overseas drivers

New to NZ roads?

Driving here can feel different: give-way rules, rural roads, roundabouts… and the odd flock of sheep. Here’s which option suits you.

Licence from a Schedule 8 country?

You can convert without a practical test. A one-hour Orientation Drive shows you how NZ road rules differ from home. No scores, no pressure.

Licence from anywhere else?

You’ll sit the Full Class 1 conversion practical test. Conversion prep starts with an appraisal, a tailored lesson plan and a mock test.

Your instructor won’t be your examiner

Saifudin also works as a VTNZ Driver Testing Officer. Once you become an LCDC student, he will never conduct your practical test. Another testing officer is always assigned, so your test stays 100% independent.

This doesn’t affect parent workshop participants or employee assessments, as no driving instruction is given to the test candidate.

“I did 4 sessions here, his knowledge and easy going teaching style was amazing, very friendly and helpful had many good chats and laughs while still effectively teaching proper techniques, because of this I passed my restricted test easily first try! I could not recommend him enough!”

“I would absolutely recommend lessons from Learning Curves to any learner drivers before you take the Resticted test. My experience as a 'later in life learner' with a lot of anxiety, was extremely positive. He is super knowledgeable and has a great teaching style that is both relaxed and professional. Really thorough- focuses on exactly what you need to know and improve on, and built my confidence in a short space of time. He will tell you soon as you are ready to go for your test. I passed mine, first time! Im beyond grateful Organising lessons was also really easy, he is very accommodating and responsive to messages.”

Rebecca MintyReviewed on Google
